10 years after having built the iconic Opera House, architect Victor Louis begins right in front of it the construction of a private hotel for M. Sacriste de Rolly aiming to create the perfect symmetry between the two buildings
1850
The Café de Bordeaux opens on the ground floor of this building already cherished by the people of Bordeaux.
1871
The establishment is then called “L’Hôtel de Rolly”. Victor Hugo will pronounce a speech for Europe on the terrace of our actual brasserie.
1904
For the very first time a hotel opens above Le Café de Bordeaux. L’Hôtel de Bordeaux employs a hundred people. At this stage, the hotel’s restaurant boasts a gigantic wine cellar of 30,000 bottles. For the very first time, the establishment will appear in the Michelin Guide.
1990
The Hotel closes for refurbishment but will never reopen.
2000 – 2002
The FIB (Financière Immobilière de Bordeaux) buys the building with the four buildings at the front, as well as three others behind the façade. Refurbishment works start.
2007
The Grand Hôtel de Bordeaux reopens its doors. After 17 years of closure, Bordeaux recover its iconic venue for which Bordeaux people had been deprived for so long.
2015
The InterContinental Hotels & Resorts group takes over le Grand Hotel de Bordeaux and it becomes the fifth French hotel of the group.
The gastronomic restaurant « Le Pressoir d’Argent » reopens under the supervision of the world’s famous chef Gordon Ramsay.
2016
The Pressoir d’Argent Gordon Ramsay wins its first ever Michelin star
2017
The gastronomic restaurant wins its second Michelin star a year after having won the first. The Pressoir d’Argent Gordon Ramsay becomes a must see in French high gastronomy.
2018
InterContinental Bordeaux – Le Grand Hotel is elected France’s Leading Hotel during the “World Travel Awards” ceremony dethroning the Bristol in Paris which had it for seven consecutive years.
2019
Constantly seeking for perfection, luxury and French art-de-vivre, InterContinental Bordeaux announce its collaboration with Guerlain which takes over the Spa. The hotel wins for the second consecutive year the award for France’s Leading Hotel and its spa is awarded Best Luxury Spa in Western Europe.
2020
The gastronomic restaurant of the InterContinental Bordeaux – Le Grand Hotel was taken over by British chef Gordon Ramsay in 2015, still in the firmament of gastronomy in 2020 by keeping its two Michelin stars.
